Samsung Displays Power the Connected Campus and Futuristic Learning at Christopher Columbus High School in Miami
Samsung Electronics America is helping Christopher Columbus High School, an all-male college-preparatory school based in Miami, Fla. connect its 19-acre campus with an end-to-end suite of digital signage and content management solutions. From interactive displays that enhance classroom learning to an indoor LED video scoreboard in the school gym that elevates school spirit during games, Christopher Columbus High School has installed around 300 Samsung displays that reimagine the campus experience and prepare students for an increasingly digital world.
Christopher Columbus High School's unique curriculum aims to prepare students for future success in college and their professional careers. In fact, the school implemented a five-year lifecycle policy for all campus technology to ensure its infrastructure keeps up with an ever-changing tech landscape. This initiative was further amplified when Alex Seage, Senior Director of Technology & Innovation at Christopher Columbus High School, joined the administration in 2021 as he oversaw the deployment of all-new Samsung display technology throughout the campus.
"We chose Samsung as our technology provider because of its best-in-class education solutions that are tailored to meet the current needs of our staff and students," Seage said. "As an alum of Christopher Columbus, I want to do my part to enrich the learning experience and build a lasting legacy through the academic success of our students. Samsung display technologies make this possible by enacting positive change across all corners of our campus—from the front office to the classroom."
Working with Samsung, Seage and his IT team replaced the school's outdated interactive whiteboards with over one hundred Samsung Interactive Displays, which were installed in every classroom. The seamless setup enabled educators to immediately use the technology as a means to bolster their lesson plans without receiving any additional training. Educators can now stream content, make annotations and access lesson files directly on the displays, making classes more immersive and interactive. The technology also empowers them to help students overcome learning challenges in real-time, as they’re able to wirelessly connect to the Interactive Display, mirror their screen and collaborate from their own laptops and mobile devices, regardless of the device's operating system. As a result, educators can embrace asynchronous pedagogy that ultimately makes students more engaged and excited to learn.
"We are proud to partner with an institution like Christopher Columbus High School that continues to make strides in enhancing the student learning experience through reimagined classroom instruction and technology deployments," said Chris Mertens, Vice President of U.S. Sales, B2B Displays, Samsung. "As interactive solutions permeate every facet of a person's life, the students are building essential skills like critical thinking, collaboration and problem solving when using these tools. We’re ensuring all of the students are set up for future academic and career success."
Beyond the classroom, Christopher Columbus High School installed Samsung's QM series of digital signage displays throughout campus hallways as well as the cafeteria, staff office and STEAM studios, which showcase real-time announcements and news of upcoming events.
Students, faculty and families will have a whole new experience cheering on the Christopher Columbus High School Explorers at the school gym, which has a large-format Samsung LED video scoreboard. The eye-catching, professional-quality visuals capture instant replays, animations and crowd interactions.
Christopher Columbus High School's full ecosystem of display technology is tied together with Samsung's MagicINFO all-in-one content management software. MagicINFO enables school administrators to remotely control all content shared on the displays and unifies communications. In the event of an emergency, MagicINFO is especially important for issuing campus-wide announcements to direct students and staff to safety.
