Jacksonville provides preview to major stadium renovations
With the arrival of the Athlon Sports 2023 College Football magazine comes the outlet's preseason All-America Team. Georgia had five players selected, including three first-team All-Americans - junior tight end Brock Bowers, junior linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson, and sophomore safety Malaki Starks.
Bowers has been Georgia's top offensive weapon during its back-to-back National Championship run, with 1,989 yards from scrimmage and 24 touchdowns in his two seasons to date. Bowers was a near-instant star for Georgia in 2021 and did not disappoint during his sophomore season in Athens. In 15 games, Bowers had 63 catches for 942 yards and seven touchdowns, with four runs for 109 yards and three touchdowns. He was responsible for the Bulldogs’ longest run of the season — a 75-yard touchdown against Kent State — and was twice named SEC Offensive Player of the Week during the season. Bowers was given the John Mackey Award as the nation's top tight end in 2022.
Dumas-Johnson is coming off his first season as a full-time starter at inside linebacker. An Associated Press All-SEC second-team selection, Dumas-Johnson started in all 15 games last season and is the second-leading returner in sacks (four) and quarterback hurries behind Williams. Starks started the last 14 games of his freshman season, with his seven pass breakups tying for the team lead. He also has a pair of quarterback hurries to his credit. Starks finished third on the team with 68 tackles, along with 1.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions.
Making the second-team All-America list is sophomore defensive end Mykel Williams. Williams started the first two games of the season and led the team with 4.5 sacks and 30 quarterback pressures in his first year. Williams was sixth on the team with 6.5 tackles for loss. Center Sedrick Van Pran and defensive back Javon Bullard are third-team All-American selections.

Athlon Sports put out its All-SEC teams last month and Georgia was first in the conference with 15 selections, with Alabama next with 12. For comparison, last year Georgia was second with 13 Athlon Sports All-SEC preseason selections behind Alabama's 18. This tracks in line with the Dawgs being ranked No. 1 in most preseason polls as the program tries to win back-to-back-to-back national championships.
This year there are five Georgia players on the first team, eight on the second team, two on the third team, and none on the fourth team. South Carolina (11) and Missouri (10) are the only teams on Georgia's 2023 schedule that have double-digit selections.
Junior tight end Brock Bowers and senior center Sedrick Van Pran made the first-team offense while the defensive first-team includes sophomore defensive end Mykel Williams, junior linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson., and sophomore safety Malaki Starks. Junior wide receivers Ladd McConkey and Dominic Lovett, senior offensive lineman Xavier Truss, and junior offensive lineman Tate Ratledge made the second-team offense, with senior defensive lineman Nazir Stackhouse, junior linebacker Smael Mondon, junior cornerback Kamari Lassiter, and safety Javon Bullard being selected to the second-team defense.
