Duke Softball Stadium Facility Page and A

Dec 15, 2023

Located on the East Campus of Duke University since the fall of 2017, the Duke Softball Stadium is home to the newest addition to the Blue Devil athletics family, the Duke softball program.

The first game played at the facility was on Sept. 30, 2017, when the Blue Devils hosted NC State in a fall ball competition. A total of 1,318 fans gathered inside the facility to watch Duke's 27th intercollegiate sport took the field for the first time, 1,383 days after the program's addition was announced by Vice President and Director of Athletics Dr. Kevin White on Dec. 16, 2013.

In the spring of 2018, the facility held its first official competition, as the Blue Devils hosted the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, with Virginia Tech defeating Penn State, 1-0, in the stadium's first game on Feb. 16. The Blue Devils’ first game in their home was a doubleheader against Penn State and Purdue, resulting in a pair of wins. After fighting back from down 5-0 to defeat PSU, the Blue Devils used a one-hitter from Amelia Wiercioch to defeat Purdue, 1-0.

Duke wrapped up year one in the facility with a 17-7 (.708) record, including eight ACC wins and two series sweeps (Boston College and Virginia) on its home field.

The Duke Softball Stadium, which completed construction in late August 2017, has capacity for 500 fans in the stands along with additional lawn spaces down the right field line. The stadium includes three indoor batting cages, locker room, team room, athletic training area, conference room and a press box that features separate booths for radio crews, TV crews and working media. Designed by EwingCole and constructed by Romeo Guest and Associates, the stadium features a playing surface of Latitude 36 Bermudagrass and Ephesus LED lighting. The dimensions of the field stretch 190 feet down the lines and 220 feet to center field.

Duke University and Duke University Athletics are committed to promoting a safe environment for all game day guests. Guests are encouraged to make the right choice for their own safety and the safety of others around them.

Duke will continue to prioritize the health and safety of our extended community. We strongly encourage all individuals to be fully vaccinated before attending events on the Duke University campus.
